14 October 2020.  Antennas Research Ltd announce new research project ‘Low Cost 3D Radar’ funded by the Defence and Security Accelerator (a part of the Ministry of Defence). A topical application is drone detection and counter-UAV systems. At the heart of the development is a low cost scanning antenna which combines the high efficiency of a waveguide-fed reflector with the scan speed associated with phased arrays. A proof-of-concept model for x-band radar will provide 360° azimuth coverage while scanning from the horizon to 45° elevation in less than 50 milliseconds. The project will conclude 4th quarter 2021.


Capabilities:

  • Antenna component design, especially for research and development, prototypes and low or medium volume manufacture
  • Computer Aided Design using the most modern 3D electromagnetics solvers
  • Waveguide components and routes to manufacture, such as milling, wire erosion, spark erosion, and 3D printing
  • Lens antennas, spherical and Luneburg lenses, especially for scanning or multi-beam antennas
  • Systems design and antennas for satellite communications and radar
  • Printed circuit antennas and phase control circuits for phased array antennas
  • Antenna measurements
